Giving back to your community is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. In Utah County, there are many service opportunities available for those looking to help, whether you have the time to volunteer or have the opportunity to donate money and goods.
The Food & Care Coalition is a non-profit organization located in Provo that opened in 1986 with a mission to provide services to the homeless and low-income people. It provides meals, housing, dental care and more to those in need. Volunteer opportunities with this organization include serving hot meals, conducting food and supply drives, providing janitorial services and more. The coalition accepts financial donations, as well as food and necessities. Some of her current needs include fresh fruit and salad ingredients, grated cheese, ground ginger, individual oatmeal packets, disinfectant spray, 55 gallon trash bags, zipper bags from the quarter size, water softener tablets, backpacks, foot powder, men’s bags and women’s razors, blankets and women’s deodorants. Community Action Services and Food Bank of Provo is a non-profit organization that provides food and shelter to people in need, with the aim of helping them lift themselves out of poverty. It is currently fundraising to provide Thanksgiving dinners to those in need and accepts food and monetary donations year round.

The Utah County United Way hosts its annual Sub for Santa event, through which the agency accepts donations for families in need. There are many ways to get involved this year, from volunteering to donating money, food, medical supplies and more. Sub for Santa Sponsors buy Christmas toys and other items for those they sponsor, with the option to sponsor an entire family, individual, or senior adult. Friends in Need is a non-profit organization located in Eagle Mountain that saves and provides a safe home for all types of animals. The Southern Utah Valley Animal Shelter in Spanish Fork accepts donations of cash and basic necessities. In addition, it accepts volunteers over 18 or under 18 accompanied by an adult. The shelter is also looking for people to accommodate mainly kittens and cats with special needs.
