Sausalito Art Festival Foundation Announces Art Sale to Benefit Art For Ukraine

SAUSALITO, Calif., May 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — About May 21 and on the 22nd, the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation will hold a benefit art sale with proceeds going to UNICEF, the Red Cross and World Central Kitchen, providing relief to victims of war in Ukraine.

“It’s heartbreaking to watch the news every day and see what senselessly happens to the citizens of Ukraine“said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation Louis Briones. We talked during a recent Board meeting that while nothing can erase the death, suffering and destruction caused by war, we are obligated to help in the way we know best, through the beauty of art .”

For 68 years, the Sausalito Art Festival has been recognized as one of America’s premier outdoor art festivals and has won countless industry awards. However, in recent years it has been closed by the pandemic and a homeless encampment that has moved to its traditional location, Marinship Park.

The Foundation tapped into its database of artists built over the years and asked them to donate works to support Ukraine; more than 60 artists responded to the call. The Foundation then worked with the new Sausalito Center For The Arts (SCA), to use its facilities to host the fundraiser.

SCA is located downtown Sausalito and will turn into a “pop up” art gallery for the event. The event is open to the public at no cost and will represent works in several artistic categories.

“It’s been gratifying to see the artists and SCA stepping up to make this event a reality,” Briones said. We often think of art as a luxury item, but this time we’re literally asking it to save lives.”
