Pop-up Art draft sale Saturday

Capital Arts’ second ephemeral art sale will take place Saturday in Jefferson City.

The sale aims to allow local artists to sell their products to the public, according to Sarah Scheffer, managing director of Capital Arts.

“The public benefits because they have another option to buy locally made items and visit the creators,” Scheffer said. “Capital Arts benefits because we bring more visitors to our doors to view the exhibits or browse the gift shop. And, if there are classes at that time, the instructors benefit by having more visibility on what they offer.”

For example, she said, a potter’s wheel instructor hosted a “Daddy and Me Clay” class on June 18. Market visitors have seen the instructor in action and many have booked future classes with her due to the exposure, Scheffer said.

About eight performers are expected for Saturday’s event.

Pop-up sales are a new idea – Capital Arts held the first in June – so artists are just starting to get a feel for what to prepare and offer at the sale.

Sales hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Capital Arts, 1203 Missouri Blvd.

While you’re there, you can check out the new “Oh Snap! Photography Show.”

In addition, the gallery will host a reception at 5 p.m. on August 4. Light appetizers, wine, special exhibits and a discussion with featured artist Curtis Hendricks will be featured.
