How much essence do you need to get in the White Palace? ›

After collecting 1800 Essence, the Dream Nail can be awoken. This allows access to dreams and memories that were previously hidden. The Awoken Dream Nail can be used on the corpse of the Kingsmould in the Palace Grounds. This grants entry to the White Palace.

After getting half of the Kingsoul Charm and waking up outside, the White Palace can be entered again by simply using the Dream Nail on the corpse.

The White Palace isn't required for the standard ending, so you can still beat the game if you haven't yet.

1200 = Arcane Egg. 1500 = Mask Shard. 1800 = Awoken Dream Nail (Achievement: Awakening) 2400 = Seer's final words (Achievement: Ascension)

Note: dying to a Dream Boss, or in. Godhome, does NOT count as an actual death. However, dying in the White Palace or to the Radiance DOES result in a Game Over.

This charm is fragile, and will break if its bearer is killed.

The entrance to Path of Pain is available near the start of the last section of White Palace (after you go up the elevator and into the next screen with the saws). White Palace is "easy" compared to that.

Sadly, the PoP closes for the rest of the playthrough once finished. The only way to replay it is to keep a save that hasn't completed it yet.

Not completing a Palace means the owner of it is still up and doing evil things. This will put the Phantom Thieves (and even some others) on edge, meaning they won't want to hangout with you until you've stolen the treasure of the Palace. Complete the active Palace and suddenly a lot of people will want to see you.

White Palace on the other hand demands both precision and excellent timing unrivaled by any other part of the game, so the large spike in platforming difficulty destroys a lot of people unused to precise platformers, self included. The other reason it can prove so frustrating is the lack of useful skill translation.

What happens if you don't beat a palace in time? ›

After you clear a palace you'll have all the time in the world to focus on links; you have your priorities backwards. If you don't secure a route to the Treasure by the calling card deadline (look at your calendar, it's not the same as your Expulsion deadline), you get a bad ending and sent back one week in time.

Beating it provides no tangible reward or extra completion percentage, but you get a little bit of extra lore and of course bragging rights. Path of pain is painful.

The Dream Nail cannot be used to place or warp to a gate while moving or while inside the Ancestral Mound, either functioning Tram, the rooms in the City of Tears containing lifts to the Forgotten Crossroads and the Resting Grounds, Beast's Den, the White Palace, the Lifeblood Chamber, the Cast-Off Shell, the Dreamers' ...

After Knocking the Pale King out of his chair, we'll have the option to sit on the throne. Remaining on the throne for long enough will trigger a haunting melody of the Hollow Knight's theme. You can only sit upon the throne once per game.

You don't have to 100% the game to get the other ending. Just get 1800 essence and clear the White Palace after upgrading your dream nail.

The Failed Champion is above the arena where you fought the False Knight, in the center of the Forgotten Crossroads. Most of his attacks are the same as the ones of the False Knight, but each of his attacks causes rocks to fall from above, crashing into the ground. Defeating him gives you 300 Essence.

How to Acquire. The Dreamgate is acquired in the Resting Grounds by talking to Seer after having acquired 900 Essence. If a save file exists from before the Hidden Dreams update after Seer has already left, Dreamgate is automatically acquired upon loading the save.
