As the cost of living in the UK continues to rise sharply, the support offered by local food banks will be needed by more people than ever before.
To support Margate’s independent food bank in the face of growing demand for its services, artist Thanet Twinkle Troughton is hosting the fourth in a series of art sales to raise money for the food bank as it continues to work for those who struggle the most.

John Finnegan, co-founder of Margate Independent Food Bank, said the team had seen a huge increase in the number of people in need of help since the start of March.
He said: “We have seen a 25% increase in the number of families using the Community Shop and asking for help and support. This, I fear, will only get worse in the months and years to come. »
Artists from across the UK have donated artwork for the sale which will take place at Cliffs on Northdown Road on March 24 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, with people invited to come and donate and then take home a work of art. ‘art.
Twinkle said, “There is no set minimum donation, we want the artwork to be affordable for everyone. As all the money raised goes to the Margate Independent Food Bank, people are often as generous as their wallets will allow, and we are always grateful for that.
As the world focuses on supporting those affected by the war in Ukraine, Twinkle says she wasn’t sure the time was right for an art sale for a local cause, adding, “I didn’t know not whether to postpone, but the cost of living is skyrocketing in the UK and set to get worse, so food banks will still need our help as demand for support grows. So, let’s go for the show.
“I would like to sincerely thank all the artists involved for their generosity. Artists are amazing at donating their work to support local and global causes, and we’re lucky to have so many people who want to help our local food bank here in Margate.
Margate artists who have committed to work include Kate Harrison, Luke de Sylva, Annabelle Losa, Vernon Lintern, Kavel Rafferty, Chris F Clark, Megan Metcalf, Jemma Channing and Twinkle Troughton, among others. Artists from further afield include David Troughton (Midlands), Tinsel Edwards (Glasgow), Sadie Hennessy (Whitstable) and Bill Jackson (Norfolk).
